What We Build

Every outdoor project we take on is designed from scratch for your property, your lifestyle, and your budget. We don't use templates — we engineer each structure to handle the specific loads, drainage, and aesthetic demands of your site.
Composite Decks
Trex and TimberTech composite decking is our most popular choice — zero maintenance, outstanding durability, and a wood-grain appearance that holds up for decades. As certified installers for both brands, we know every product line inside and out.
Multi-Level Decks
Whether your yard slopes or you simply want distinct zones for dining, lounging, and entertaining, multi-level construction lets us maximize every inch of your outdoor space with intentional design.
Pool Decks & Surrounds
Pool decks demand materials that handle constant moisture, sun exposure, and foot traffic. We use slip-resistant composite boards and non-corroding hardware specifically rated for poolside conditions.
Pergolas & Shade Structures
From classic cedar pergolas to modern aluminum structures, we design and build overhead elements that add definition, shade, and architectural interest to any outdoor living space.
Outdoor Kitchens
Built-in grills, weatherproof cabinetry, stone countertops, refrigerator drawers, and under-counter storage — we build fully functional outdoor cooking areas that are as durable as they are impressive.
Stone & Paver Patios
Bluestone, flagstone, travertine, and concrete pavers — we lay patios that complement your home's architecture and stand up to the freeze/thaw cycle of the Northeast climate.
Railing Systems

The right railing system ties the entire deck together — and the wrong one undermines an otherwise excellent build. We offer the full range, from classic to contemporary, and help you choose based on your view, your style, and your local code requirements.
- Glass panel railings — frameless or semi-frameless for unobstructed views
- Cable railing — horizontal stainless steel for a modern, minimal look
- Trex Signature® aluminum railing — low-maintenance, code-compliant, available in multiple colors
- TimberTech aluminum railings — matched to your decking system for a unified look
- Classic wood railings — painted or stained to match your home's trim
- Composite balusters — available in decorative profiles, no maintenance required
- Post lighting — integrated post caps with low-voltage LED lighting
Composite vs. Pressure-Treated Wood

Most homeowners ask us whether to go with composite or pressure-treated wood. The honest answer depends on your budget, how much maintenance you're willing to do, and how long you plan to stay in your home.
Composite — Our Recommendation
Zero maintenance beyond occasional cleaning, 25–30 year warranties on fade and stain, no splinters, no rot, no annual refinishing. Over a 15-year period, composite typically costs less than wood once you factor in maintenance. We're certified by both Trex and TimberTech — the two leading composite brands.
Pressure-Treated Wood
Lower upfront cost, easier to repair individual boards, and a look that some homeowners prefer. Requires sanding, staining, and sealing every 1–2 years to maintain appearance and prevent cracking and rot. Best suited to projects with a shorter time horizon or very tight budgets.
Hardwood Decking
Ipe, cumaru, and mahogany are exceptional materials — denser than pressure-treated pine and naturally resistant to insects and rot. Beautiful when maintained. Premium cost, requires regular oiling, and heavier structural requirements. The right choice for design-forward projects with the budget to match.
Boat Docks & Piers

We design and build custom fixed and floating docks, piers, and waterfront structures for lakefront and riverfront properties across the region. Built to handle freeze/thaw cycles, wave action, and year-round moisture — with the same attention to detail we bring to every outdoor structure.
Fixed & Floating Docks
Fixed pile-supported docks for stable waterfronts, floating dock systems for properties with variable water levels — we assess your site and build the right structure for your conditions.
Materials
Composite decking (Trex, TimberTech) is our preferred dock surface for its moisture resistance and zero maintenance. We pair it with hot-dipped galvanized or stainless hardware and pressure-treated structural framing rated for ground and water contact.
Permitting
Dock construction in New York and Connecticut requires permits from the Army Corps of Engineers, DEC (NY) or DEEP (CT), and your local municipality. We coordinate the full permitting process as part of every waterfront project.
How We Work
Our Process
01
Design & Planning
We visit your property, assess the site, discuss your vision, and develop a design that works with your home's architecture, your yard's grade, and your local permit requirements.
02
Material Selection
We walk you through decking, railing, and hardware options — bringing samples so you can compare colors and textures in the actual light of your outdoor space.
03
Permitting
We handle all permit applications and coordinate with your municipality. Most deck projects in Westchester require a building permit — we manage the process from start to finish.
04
Build & Finish
Our crew builds to exact specifications with daily site cleanup. We don't consider a project done until every board, post, and railing passes our own inspection — then yours.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a permit to build a deck in Westchester?
Yes — most deck projects in Westchester, Putnam, and Fairfield County require a building permit. Requirements vary by municipality. Sunrise Carpentry handles the full permitting process, including drawings and inspections, as part of every project.
What's the difference between Trex and TimberTech?
Both are excellent composite decking systems. Trex offers a wider range of price points and is the most recognized brand in the market. TimberTech (including AZEK) is known for its premium capped polymer products and its widest board options. As certified installers for both, we'll walk you through which makes more sense for your project.
How long does a deck build take?
Most standard decks take 1–3 weeks to build once permitting is approved. Permitting itself takes 2–8 weeks depending on your municipality. We give you a realistic full timeline at the estimate stage.
Can you build a deck that attaches to my existing house?
Yes — attached ledger decks are very common. We assess the existing structure, flash the ledger connection properly (a common failure point on poorly built decks), and obtain the appropriate permits for the attachment.
